Reports detailing latest updates to the database

The 2025 and 2024 updates to the Estuaries Database were funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as part of the marine arm of the Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) programme. These are the reports produced for these projects

New updates the UK Estuaries Database. Adjusting data to align with waterbody boundaries used under the Water and Environment Regulations. March 2025

Report prepared for the Environment Agency, which describes the updates that were made to the database, as well as the methodology and input data used to derive the new values included within it. It then provides recommendations for future updates to be progressed during 2025 and into early 2026. This review was undertaken jointly by ABPmer, HR Wallingford and Prof. Ian Townend.

Report to follow.

Updating the UK Estuaries Database. A scoping review to improve the UK Enhanced Estuaries Database and its companion online Estuary Guide. July 2024

Report prepared for the Environment Agency which describes the outcomes of meetings with these stakeholders, as well as the main improvements carried out to the website and the database. It then provides recommendations for future updates to be progressed during 2024 and into early 2025. This review was undertaken jointly by ABPmer, HR Wallingford and Prof. Ian Townend.
